Hello everybody!!! Long time no see! It has been a hectic month full of exams! Right now I have a month off until I start practicum…..my last month off ever in my whole life! Kinda scary! So as I’m nearing the end of my academic career, I’m thinking about the time I had at BCIT. There were ups and downs (ugh exams), but I survived. When I first started the program, I was calm because I knew when I was done, there would be a job waiting for me. Everybody told me that 2 years would go by quickly, but honestly it has not. It was a hard two years full of studying, sweat, and tears….but it is all worth it! All the hard work that went into my diploma makes me appreciate it even more. I have been to university and BCIT. When I compare the two, BCIT is the one that stands out. Why you ask? The INSTRUCTORS!

Everybody has experienced bad teachers/instructors/professors. They really affect whether you learn, pay attention in class, or succeed. The best teacher can make any subject intriguing and fun! The worst teacher can make an exciting subject mundane and boring. In university, I relied on something called…Rate My Professor. Seriously it is the most amazing site! I didn’t find out about it until my second year in university. It allowed me to plan ahead to ensure I avoid bad teachers. When I entered my BCIT instructors, they were not on the site. I was a bit nervous when I first met them. I like to know what I’m getting myself into. If I was stuck with a bad instructor, I couldn’t find another one because there is only one person teaching the course…plus they would teach me from my first day til my last day.

Luckily I found my instructors young, fun, and outgoing. Wow I felt like I won the jackpot! Honestly, they are a great bunch! They were more than just my instructors…..they were our mentors and our inspirers. When I first started school, it was weird adjusting to the small class sizes. The instructors knew our names so quickly! They were so open with us. We got to know them more than just instructors. We heard personal stories about their experiences and their family. Their spirit really allowed us to open up to each other. Asking them questions was neither scary nor daunting because I knew them as PEOPLE. In university I always avoid asking the instructors or TAs questions because they were intimidating. My instructors are so warm and open and are soooooo willing to answer our questions. Asking a question was as easy as talking to them.

The DMS instructors really go above and beyond. Throughout my time at BCIT, we have had so many fun activities, speakers, and field trips! They pour hours of their time and dedication to ensure we have a great learning experience. Their dedication to quality education and teaching really shows. To those who are going into the program or looking to apply in the future, I can say you are in great hands!
